“AB Enzymes is prepared for REACH”


In June 2007 the European Union adopted a new chemical legislation: EU Regulation 1907/2006/EC, briefly denoted by REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals). This notice is to inform you that we are aware of REACH and the time limits which are set for pre-registration and registration of produced substances.

With regard to enzymes the new regulation merely applies to enzymes which are intended to be used for technical applications (e.g. textile, detergent, pulp and paper). These enzymes will require a pre-registration within June and December 2008 and full registration starting in 2010 at the earliest or even later until 2018, dependent on the tonnage of the substances produced.

Enzymes used for food and animal feed applications are exempted from the scope of REACH and hence from the (pre)registration process.

AB Enzymes GmbH is the sole distributor of products which are manufactured by Roal Oy in Finland and which have technical application under Biotouch®, Ecostone® and Ecopulp® brands. Roal started the pre-register and registration process with support of AB Enzymes and it is intended to register all substances which are produced and marketed for technical applications. This is collectively done through trade associations, suppliers, with customers and other enzyme manufacturers.
